DIY’s are very common these days. People want the fulfillment of making something on their own while at the same time saving quite a bit of money. There is no issue with that. However, should you make your company’s logo a DIY project? We think not. And there are some good reasons why. Check them out below.
A DIY logo won’t look as professional
Logo designers take a lot of time to perfect their craft. So do website designers, and even photo editors. When they make a logo for you, you get to reap from the years of experience and expertise that they have soaked up over time. That is why you have to pay for their services when buying a custom logo design. If you choose to make your own logo, chances are that you won’t manage to pull off a product that is as refined as what a professional logo designer would make. And it will show. Your logo will look unfinished, it will not look like a professional brand logo. And that is not how you want to start your business – with a logo that sends the wrong signals about your business.
Designer logos are not that expensive today
Sure, starting a business can be expensive. However, your logo is not one of the areas where you want to apply cost-cutting measures. That is because there are no costs to cut. Logos might have been expensive some years ago but today they are not. A new professional logo will only set you back a couple of hundred dollars. So if your goal is to save money, you should focus on other areas such as store/office rent, number of employees, furniture, and so forth. Those are some of the areas that take up the bulk of the expenditure.
A DIY logo process is likely to take long
Another reason why trying to make your own logo is a bad idea is the lost time opportunity. You are bound to waste a lot of time trying to put together a decent logo. Your DIY project might go on for weeks or even months. And what this will do is that it will derail a lot of other important processes such as building your website, printing business cards, etc. After all, your logo is needed in all those places. On the flip side, today you can find pre made logos that are ready for your picking. Within minutes (or a few days at most) you can have your custom logo in your hands.
Upgrading your logo later is not so easy
You might decide to create your own cheap DIY logo on the premise that later on when your business is successful you’ll change it to something more suiting. You could do this. However, it won’t be so easy. Changing a logo, for one, is expensive. You have to rebrand your entire business and that means fresh advertising and changing all the paperwork and products to reflect the new look.
